Privacy Policy

Effective October 10, 2026

Captionry is operated by Lot 313, LLC, a Delaware limited liability company, which is responsible for the personal information described here. This policy explains what Captionry collects when you visit this website, buy from us or contact us, and what we do with it.

Information we collect

  • Your email address, if you joined the waitlist before Unlimited could be bought, used only to tell you once that it can be bought. The form has closed and no new addresses are collected.
  • When you buy Unlimited: on your return from Stripe's checkout we look up that purchase with Stripe (its payment status, amount, refund status and the email address you gave at checkout) to issue your license key. We keep only Stripe's reference number for that checkout and the ad click id; the name, email address and billing details you enter at checkout stay with Stripe and are not copied into our own database.
  • Ad click and campaign tags from the page address, kept to measure which ads work.
  • Your name, email address and billing details when you check out. Card details are entered on Stripe's checkout page; we never receive or store your full card number.
  • Messages you send us, and anything you include in them.
  • If you arrive from one of our ads: the ad click identifier in the link you followed, which we keep with your order.
  • Technical data our hosting provider processes to serve and protect this website, such as IP address, browser type and the pages requested.

This website uses Cloudflare Web Analytics, which counts page views in aggregate (page, referrer, country, browser type). It sets no cookies and does not track you across sites; like any web request, Cloudflare receives your IP address and browser user agent to do this. Query strings are not recorded. It loads one script from Cloudflare. This website loads no advertising scripts, and we look only at aggregate traffic statistics.

Subtitle files you convert are read and converted entirely in your browser. They are not uploaded to, or stored on, our servers.

Your license key is stored in your own browser (local storage). When the converter starts, it sends the key to our server to check its signature; about once a day the server also asks Stripe whether that purchase was refunded or disputed.

We count conversions anonymously: when you convert a batch, load more files than the free batch limit or follow the unlock link in that notice, your browser sends a count of the files, the input and output formats, the free or Unlimited plan and which page you are on. We never receive file contents or file names, and we add these counts to daily totals without your IP address, browser details or cookies.

How we use it

  • to deliver what you bought and to communicate with you about your order;
  • to answer support questions and handle refund requests;
  • to measure which of our ads lead to purchases;
  • to keep accounting, tax and legal records;
  • to prevent fraud and abuse, and to keep the website working.

Business email

If we emailed you about Captionry, we used your business contact details (name, work email address, job title and company) from publicly available sources and business contact data providers, because your role suggested the product could be relevant to your business. Every such email has an unsubscribe link. Once you unsubscribe or ask us to stop, we will not email you about Captionry again, and we keep only the minimum record needed to honor that request.

Who we share it with

We share personal information only with service providers that help us run Captionry, and only as needed for them to do so:

  • Stripe, our payment processor, and Link, the Stripe service that acts as seller of record for purchases made through Stripe Managed Payments (payments, tax, receipts and order support);
  • cloud hosting and content delivery providers (serving and protecting this website, and aggregate traffic statistics);
  • cloud storage and database providers (keeping your settings and order records);
  • email routing and customer-support service providers (receiving the emails you send to our support address, sorting them and preparing draft replies);
  • advertising platforms (to measure our ads: when you arrive from an ad and buy, the ad click identifier and the purchase value);
  • professional advisers such as accountants and lawyers, where needed.

We may also disclose information when the law requires it, or to protect our rights or the safety of others. We do not sell your personal information for money.

Payments are processed by Stripe, including Link for purchases made through Stripe Managed Payments, under the Stripe Privacy Policy (which covers Link).

How long we keep it

We keep the information you send us, and your order details, only as long as needed to provide the service and to meet legal, accounting and tax obligations, and then delete it. Copies of support emails kept to sort them and prepare replies are usually held for up to 90 days (up to 12 months if a message could not be delivered to us and is still being handled), after which their sender, subject, message and draft replies are deleted; the support emails themselves are kept only as long as needed to answer you and meet legal obligations, then deleted. You can ask us to delete your information sooner (see below).

Your choices and rights

You can ask us what personal information we hold about you, and ask us to correct or delete it. Depending on where you live (for example California, other US states, the UK or the EU), you may have further rights, such as to receive a copy of your data, or to opt out of or object to certain uses, including sharing for ad measurement. Contact us from the email address you used with us; we will respond within the time the law requires and will not treat you differently for making a request. If we must keep some records by law, we will tell you.

Security

We use established service providers and limit access to your information to what is needed to serve you. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure.

International transfers

We are based in the United States, and our service providers may process information in the United States and other countries.

Children

Captionry is a business product and is not directed to children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 16.

Changes

If we change this policy, we will post the new version on this page with a new effective date.
