How to

How to convert a folder of SRT or VTT files

  1. Drop the folder

Drop a folder or many files onto the converter above. A folder can mix SRT, WebVTT, ASS/SSA and MicroDVD files; each is detected by its content.

  2. Choose WebVTT or SRT

WebVTT is preselected on this page. Switch to SRT to go the other way. Options let you shift timing in milliseconds or strip tags for the whole batch.

  3. Save one zip

You get one zip with the same subfolders you dropped. Malformed lines are skipped and listed per file, so one damaged file does not stop the batch.

Why this way

No uploading a file at a time

Files never uploaded

Nothing is sent to a server. Client and unreleased captions stay on your machine.

Structure kept

Course folders, seasons and language subfolders come back in the zip the way they went in.

Timing shift

Move every cue earlier or later by a number of milliseconds across the batch while you convert.

FAQ

Questions

Can I convert a whole folder of VTT files to SRT?

Yes. Drop the folder, choose SRT and save one zip. The free tier converts 3 files per batch; Unlimited ($19 once) has no limit.

Is the folder structure kept?

Yes. Subfolders are kept inside the zip, and files that are not subtitles are skipped.

Are my files uploaded?

No. The conversion runs in your browser tab. Files are not sent to us or anyone else.

What about garbled characters in older SRT files?

Captionry detects UTF-8, UTF-16 and common legacy encodings automatically, and you can override the encoding under Options. Output is always UTF-8.

Can I shift the timing at the same time?

Yes. Enter an offset in milliseconds under Options; negative values move subtitles earlier. Cues that would end before 0:00 are left out and listed as a warning.

Converting more than 3 files at a time?

Unlimited removes the batch limit for $19 once, with no subscription.
